Recognising our volunteers in the south

Celebrating the wonderful role of our volunteers in the south of the state.

During National Volunteer Week, we brought together our southern volunteers to acknowledge their service and announce the recipients of the Doug Cooper Awards.

Congratulations to Bruny Island volunteer, Tony Korab, who was awarded the overall Doug Cooper Award for volunteer recognition.

Tony has been driving with us for 13 years and continues to provide a friendly and professional service to our consumers.

“Tony continually helps out both Bruny Island and southern consumers. He is an active and involved member of his community and promotes CTST in a positive light while maintaining friendly yet professional relationships.”

Tony’s ability to give was particularly evident at the height of COVID, when he drove for CTST every day, putting his community and safety first.

We are also delighted to announce that Kerry Pohle is the recipient of the Doug Cooper Award for the southern region.

Kerry is a positive role model for CTST and receives this award for helping to train our new volunteers on buddy runs, giving them helpful hints, and introducing them to CTST. “Kerry is a legend; she goes out of her way and does so much for CTST. The passengers love her.”

Lesley Pennicott received our ‘Because of You’ award for making her trips more personal. “She is exceptionally helpful, even when someone else is in the vehicle, you always feel like Lesley is focused on you. She’s wonderful.”

We also recognised our other southern nominees:

John Rundle –“Nothing is a bother to him, he’s a lovely man.”

Simon Ebsworth –“Simon is like a breath of fresh air…. He is so patient with us ‘oldies’ and sits and chats when we stop for coffees.”

Peter Hill – “I enjoy my trips with Peter…I feel safe when I am driven by him.”

Margaret Denny – “Margaret has been there for me when I needed it most. She is also very accommodating, totally reliable, and helpful.”

Peter Dane – “Peter always opens the door for me and treats me with the utmost respect.”

Max Cross – “I feel safe when I’m being driven by him and I enjoy my trips with Max.”

Kevin Hyland – “Kevin is always cheerful and happy when he is in the office, at Christmas, he dressed up as Santa when picking up his consumers.”

Lucy Bester – “Lucy is an admin volunteer and is magnificent.”

Wayne Moore – “A true gentleman and an asset to CTST.”

Keven Williams – “I regularly travel with Keven to get to my treatment and I enjoy my trips with him.”

Stephen Pash – “He makes the passengers feel happy and brings such a positive energy to everything he does.”

Peter Goodrick – “Peter is a consistent hard worker who brings his best each day.”

Rob Anderson – “Rob is flexible, always happy to do what’s needed.”

Thank you, Tony, Kerry, John, Lesley, Simon, Peter, Keven, Max, Margaret, Peter, Kevin, Lucy, Wayne, Stephen, Peter, Rob, and our entire team of wonderful volunteers in the south!

The awards are named in honour of Doug Cooper, a long-standing and well-respected board member and volunteer of CTST. Doug was the first to receive life membership for his 20-plus years of service. His aim was to provide quality transport for our consumers and ensure that our volunteers were supported in their role with us.
